Yesterday at Still Waters in a Storm we talked about our peace places. A peace place is somewhere real or imagined that we all can create in our minds. A place where we can retreat to and find some relief from the pressures of our lives.
By simply taking a moment to deepen our breath and allow our minds to travel to a place that we find to be calm and peaceful, we can invite periods of tranquility into each day.
After a short meditation, the children shared some of the qualities of each of their peace places...what these places look like, sound like, smell like, and feel like. They saw trees and heard laughter. They smelled fresh, warm air and felt sweat on their skin. Some imagined a quiet place in nature, others pictured their serenity and privacy of their bedrooms. One child imagined the quiet bottom of a deep swimming pool where he could finally have the chance to experience silence and make space for calmer thoughts.
Afterwards, we read this poem by Wendell Berry.
Where is your peace place?
